Instagram story mention automation: auto-thank every mention
When someone mentions you in their story, they're endorsing you to their whole audience — free reach, social proof, and a warm lead in one gesture. Story mention automation makes sure every mention gets an instant thank-you DM, so the people who shout you out know you noticed.

Why mentions deserve a fast reply
A mention is the most generous thing a follower can do for free: they put your brand in front of people who trust them. Speed matters because mentions are conversations — thank them in seconds and they'll do it again; notice it three days later and the moment is gone. And the DM itself is private and personal: "just saw your story — thank you 🙏" lands completely differently from a comment like.
Setting it up
- connectConnect your Instagram Business or Creator account to AutomateDM.
- triggerCreate a new automation and choose the story mention trigger.
- messageWrite the thank-you. Keep it warm and short — and if you run referrals or an affiliate program, this is the natural place to mention it.
- publishPublish. Every story that mentions you now earns an instant thank-you.
Best practices
- Thank first, promote never (or last). A bare thank-you builds goodwill; tacking a discount code onto every mention cheapens it.
- Re-share the best mentions manually. The automation handles the DM; the re-share to your own story is your judgment call — and it doubles the reach.
- Use it as your referral engine. "P.S. our affiliate crew gets 20% for every sale they send — want in?" turns fans into sellers.

FAQs
Does the mention have to be a story, or do post tags count too?
This trigger fires on story mentions — someone tagging your account in their story. Post tags and comment mentions are different surfaces.
Can I send different messages to big accounts vs regular followers?
Not with automation alone — the trigger can't judge follower counts. Keep one warm, universal thank-you; handle notable accounts personally when you see them.
Is it safe to automate this?
Yes — it runs on the official Graph API and only messages people who mentioned you first, which is exactly the interaction Meta designed the API for.
